Your role as Design Manager MBB RF

You are going to be part of the business unit MBB R&D team that develops high performance RF power amplifier products for the Mobile Broadband market. You will lead a highly skilled, multicultural team of around 20 RF engineers. The design team is located in Nijmegen but will work closely together with the other MBB design teams located in Toulouse (Franse) and in Shanghai (China).

The design team’s charter is to drive improvements in key parameters e.g. the signal bandwidth, the linearized efficiency and the lineup gain and solution size within a given technology platform.

As Design Manager MBB RF you are an expert when it comes to RF technology, but you are also a leader and mentor to your department. You are responsible for resource management. This includes career development and guidance of staff, job rotation, motivation, coaching, support, and appraisal. You coordinate design resources for new product and technology projects. Competence management is also a key responsibility in this position. You build and maintain a world-class RF design team and champion improvements in RF design competencies matching Ampleon’s roadmaps.

A key part of you role is to lead product development engineering teams to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals. It is important you have an in-depth understanding of the competitors offering, both in products design and technology.

You lead by example and are able to perform root cause analysis of technical problems, provide resolutions and embed the learnings into the product creation flow. On top of this, you are able to develop and clearly communicate product design strategies based on your knowledge. These strategies should result in standardized learnings in the RF design flow, technology models, design tools and product release alignment with Ampleon’s R&D sites.

You will mentor, grow, and inspire your team members providing continuous feedback to your team members to support them in their role. Set priorities and remove obstacles to enable your staff to operate efficiently and reach their full potential.

Your profile

You are an expert in the field of RF and happy to act as a technical advisor for the engineers when needed. You are the motivating force behind innovative projects and by being a natural leader you bring out the best in people. You have self-discipline, keep your word and finish your work. You have a knack for uniting internal departments to ensure that support for product development is sufficient and that scalability is realistic.

Coaching and enthusing the teams will be second nature to you. You have the ability to assert leadership and create conditions that help the departments and individuals perform at the highest level. You are focused on synergy and teamwork and the continuing development of your departments.

You are cost-conscious, proactive and persuasive. You maintain an overview of the situation, can determine goals and priorities, and are willing to delegate. Additionally, you have excellent communication skills. You can change gears rapidly when needed and can adapt to most situations.

Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following profile:

  • A master’s degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent.
  • Have at least 10 years of experience in working with RF design.
  • Have over 5 years of experience in a managerial role.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Have a proven track record in carrying out RF design projects.
