Financial Controller

Job Description

As Van Essen Instruments’ Financial Controller, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of accounting, financial planning, reporting, controls and administration, budgets and cost savings. You possess the ability to accurately reflect profit and drive improvements. You will be reporting to the Division Finance Manager of Nova Metrix (located in the United States) functionally, and hierarchically you will be reporting to the General Manager of Van Essen Instruments (located on site in Delft). You will need the flexibility to manage your hours of work locally, whilst dealing with colleagues in North America (Canada and the United States).

Further key responsibilities include accounting operations: billing, accounts receivable, credit risk management, accounts payable, general ledger, inventory and cost accounting, payroll, and revenue recognition.

You are integral to the organization in assimilating variances to be able to communicate and transfer information. You are responsible for financial planning, reporting, controls and administration (for short and long-term objectives). You are also able to provide support and advise in purchasing, inventory, costing, budgeting, analyzing financial statements.

As you will be coordinating tasks with offices in North America, you are able to prepare financial statements in accordance with the local Statutory and US GAAP and able to consolidate their said monthly financial reports. You are responsible for quarterly and annual budget forecasts, month-end closing process and weekly flash and cash reports are reported.

We are looking for someone that is versed in establishing and maintaining internal accounting and operational controls over recognition, expense management and effective measurement and control over all assets. You will manage physical inventory, controlling the flow of raw materials, tools and company’s assets.

You work together with a Finance Assistant in establishing effective processes and controls to ensure the integrity of the company’s (general) ledger. You are also responsible for coordinating audits with the independent public accountants.

The Financial Controller reports to the Division Finance Manager of Nova Metrix (functional) and Van Essen’s General Manager (hierarchical).

Your Profile

You are a Financial Controller responsible for accounting operations with evident leadership capabilities in supporting the management team with financial analyses for short and long-term operational strategies. You are able to identify and accurately reflect the company’s profit and drive improvements. Integral in collaborating between parties within Van Essen Instruments (and the holding group) you are hands-on in day-to-day reporting. You work efficiently and have excellent management skills and support projects when it comes to making corporate decisions.

You are a critical thinker and have the ability to constructively resolve conflicts. You are able to communicate on all levels of the organization; you effectively communicate and participate within a technical team, as well as on a management level.

You are flexible in willing to work between the local time zone in Delft and with colleagues in Canada and in the United States within the organization.

In addition:

  • you have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance;
  • have a minimum of three to five years of experience in a manufacturing environment and at least three to five years as a controller;
  • have experience with the Dutch payroll;
  • have global accounting experience (preferred);
  • have experience with multiple ERP packages (Exact preferred);
  • are fluent in English and Dutch, written and spoken.
  • are flexible with working hours to accommodate counterparts in North-America.
